What clients in Franklin County and Cache Valley say
Most of our clients found us on Google or Thumbtack, and a lot of them were kind enough to leave a review. Here are a few. You can read all the JB Construction reviews too.

JB Construction started with a winter layoff and one small floor remodel
Always liked to build stuff out of lumber and thought construction was cool. In high school I found woodshop and just fell in love with it. I went on to get a certificate in cabinetry and furniture design, installed cabinets, did flooring, then worked on wind turbines until they laid me off for the winter.
I needed work, so I put out an ad and got a small floor remodel. Then it was one thing after another. "Hey, can you do this? Hey, can you do that?" So I got my general's license, and I've been making it work for five years now.
I'm a carpenter and licensed general contractor, and I'm in it for the craft. A lot of stuff gets mass produced and thrown in very fast these days. That's not me.

We see it with our own eyes before we price anything
Small jobs take a couple of steps and bigger ones take a few more. Either way, work doesn't start until you've got a solid number you're happy with, and you're in the loop from there.
Get My Free EstimateYou call or send the form. We'll get your name and the basics, then try to scope out the project and get a feel for what you're looking for. If you already filled in the form, we'll go over what you sent. Before we hang up, we line up a time to come see it.
Every job starts face to face. We want to see the project in person and get a full understanding before we put a number on anything. Show us what you've got in mind, whether that's a sketch, a photo of the room or just an idea.
Small job, like finish carpentry? We meet, go over it and get it priced out and figured out. A bigger job has a few more steps. We build a preliminary estimate, a pretty rough number, and bring it back so you can ask, "Hey, is this even within our budget?" If it is, cool, we keep going. If it isn't, we talk about lowering the scope or cheaper options. If it needs plans, a designer gets involved, either yours or someone we know. Once it's designed, we bring a solid number to the table.
Once there's a number you're happy with, we sign a contract. It lays out the price, the payments and the warranty on our work. You put down a 40% deposit, and your project goes on the schedule.
We handle permits in-house and keep the communication clear and direct the whole way, by text, email and phone. Living in the house? We close off the work area so there's a barrier between where you live and where we're working. A 30% payment comes at the midway point we agreed on.
We walk the finished job with you and make sure you're satisfied. That's when the final 30% is due.
Remodeling and carpentry in Preston, ID and around Franklin County
Full projects, plus the carpentry, floors and structural work we enjoy most. If it's made out of wood, there's a good chance we can build it.
Our promise: done right, down to the smallest detail
You call us when you want to make the coolest remodel you've ever seen, big budget or not. If you want someone cheap who'll just throw it in fast, they're out there.
We'll remake it if it isn't right
The smallest details make or break a project. We're not afraid to take a step back and redo something until it's done right.
Solid wood, built on site
Most trim around here is painted MDF. We can do that, but we'd rather build in oak, pine or mahogany, and we build cabinets right there at your house. It definitely creates a different product.
You'll see the owner every day
Brigham works your job in person, so you'll get to know each other pretty good.
Surprises get fixed on the spot
Older houses always hide something. On a 1970s house in Nibley we found rot behind the siding, jacked up the house and put in 12 new floor joists without stopping the job.
You'll always know what's going on
By text, email or phone, you'll know where things stand. You'll have choices, and you'll be heard.
We'll stand behind the work
We warranty faulty craftsmanship in writing, and we hold the manufacturer warranties on everything that goes in.

Questions we often hear from our clients
These are the questions people ask most when they're looking for a general contractor in Preston, answered straight.
For most jobs, yes. If we can see the project, meet you once and get you a price, it's free. Big jobs are different. Custom homes, large remodels and additions, roughly $100,000 and up, take a lot of back and forth to design, and there's got to be some money in the game for that time. So there's a fee to write up the bid. We'll tell you on the first call.
Then we talk about it. Maybe we lower the scope, maybe we look at cheaper options. On bigger jobs, that's why you get a rough number first, so you can make that call before anything gets designed. It never needs to stop after you've seen the price. As Brigham puts it, “I'm happy to make stuff work out.”
Usually 40% down to get on the schedule. Another 30% at a midway point we agree on. The last 30% when it's done and you're satisfied. Bigger projects can work a little differently, and it's all spelled out in the contract.
Usually, yes, but a remodel gets pretty invasive if you're living there. We definitely take extra precautions: we close off the work area with plastic and zip doors to keep the dust and mess away from where you live. A kitchen remodel is the hardest one, because you may go a while without a sink or a dishwasher. On a kitchen in Cove, the client lived through exactly that. It was kind of rough and took a little longer than expected, but she ended up with exactly the kitchen she wanted. On finish carpentry jobs, living at home is no problem.
Happens a lot, especially when you're in the house day in and day out. Halfway through you think, you know what, let's do some more flooring in the dining room too. That's a change order. We agree on a price, you pay it, and then the work starts. No work before that.
Yes. We warranty faulty craftsmanship, and the terms are written into your contract. We also hold the manufacturer warranties on what goes into your project. If something comes up later, let us know and we're more than happy to come take a look.
Either way works. The designer is always out of house, so you can bring your own, or we'll bring in someone we know. On a large addition we'll usually need one to get stuff drawn up.
Yeah, we handle permitting in-house.
Painting and carpet, mostly. We've got a painter we can sub on a bigger job. But if all you need is your house painted, you can find a painter who's way cheaper than us, because we'd have our markup on it.
